Spider 1 I’m a big, bad spider. I like to frighten little girls.
[He walks up to Miss Muffet, scaring her offstage]
Narr 3 Spiders aren’t usually naughty.
[Spider exits giggling. Miss Muffet enters rather cautiously]
Miss M. Oh what a horrid spider. Well at least he’s gone now. Mmm, I’ll finish my
curds and whey. [She sits and starts to eat. A second big spider enters
and speaks to the audience]
Spider 2 I’m another big, bad spider. I like to frighten little girls too.
[He walks up to Miss Muffet, scaring her offstage]
Narr 4 Two big naughty spiders. How very, very unusual.
[Spider exits giggling. Miss Muffet enters very cautiously]
Miss M. Another horrid spider. That’s put me off my picnic. I’ll go back home and
wrap some Christmas presents.
Santa [Santa enters] Hello Miss Muffet. Did you say Christmas presents?
Miss M. Hello Father Christmas. Yes, I’m going home to wrap some Christmas
presents. I’m not enjoying my picnic at all. This tuffet seems to be
overrun with horrible spiders that keep frightening me.
Santa Well, it’s lucky I came along. I’ve got just the perfect Christmas present
for you Miss Muffet. [Quickly goes off stage and brings back a child dressed as a parrot] Meet Percy the parrot. Percy loves eating spiders for tea.
[The spiders enter. They do not see Santa or the parrot, and speak to the audience]
Spiders We are two horrible big spiders. We like to scare little girls.
SONG 5 : BIG BLACK SPIDERS
Opportunity for the spiders to perform a simple dance routine.
Spider 1 [The spiders turn and see the parrot] Aaargh! A parrot!
Spider 2 He’ll eat us up. Run!
Parrot [Parrot voice] Who’s a clever Santa, who’s a clever Santa. [All exit]
The story takes place in the Land of Rhyme, where Father Christmas meets nursery rhyme characters and sorts out their problems with perfect Christmas presents.
Narrators and cast start each scene with unison reciting of the relevant nursery rhyme.
Humpty Dumpty
Nurses and doctors cannot mend poor old Humpty, who has been "scrambled". Father Christmas saves the day with a large tube of superglue.
Little Bo Peep
So that Bo Peep doesn't loose her sheep in future, Father Christmas gives her some bells to tie around their necks.
Mary, Mary Quite Contrary
Mary's garden is terrific in the summer, but when winter comes her garden looks very sad. How thoughtful of Father Christmas to bring her a Christmas cactus.
Little Miss Muffet
What naughty, naughty spiders, scaring Miss Muffet like that. The parrot that Santa brings scares those spiders even more though. They might be eaten!
Polly Put the Kettle On
While Polly and Sukey are serving people tea and Christmas cake the kettle boils dry. That will never happen again with the electric kettle that Santa brings.
What a clever Santa.
