Santa              [Points and says names]  Ernest, Ellen and Eddy Elf… you can paint the sleigh.

Painters           Yippee!  Thanks Santa. [Painting elves exit]

Santa              Come on everybody, let’s see what else we can find to do. [All exit]

[A cardboard cut out of a sleigh is placed centre stage.

Painters enter to centre stage carrying their large tins of paint]

Ernest             Now which colour will look best?

SONG 2 : NICE  BRIGHT  COLOURS

Suggestion - during verses painter elves hold up the appropriate tin whilst other elves or fairies skip around waving coloured scarves.

Ellen               [Stretches and yawns]  This painting is very hard.

Ernest             What a good job. Santa will be pleased.

Eddy               The sleigh is finished now. Let’s go and have a rest. [All exit]

Announcer        SCENE 2.

CAST               [Loudly] THE STABLES.

Enter reindeer, Santa, elves, (but not the painter elves), fairies and  Norman.

Santa              Now who wants to groom the reindeer?

Norman           [Waving his arms in the air] Me, me, I will. Pick me Santa, Pick me.

Elton               [Turns to Norman, in a superior voice]

This is a job for an elf or a fairy, not a gnome.

Santa              I’m afraid it is Norman. Gnomes are too small.

Elsa                [In a kind voice]  You’ll just have to go home and play Norman.

Ellie                Off you go Norman and play with your teddies and toy soldiers.

Norman           [Makes a hopeless gesture] Oh dear, gnome alone. It’s no fun.

All Narr            Aawh poor Norman.

Santa              [Points to fairies]  I think this is a job for the fairies. Come on everybody, let’s leave them to it.  [All exit except reindeer and grooming fairies]

Santa's Workshop

There is so much to be done at Christmas. All the elves and fairies want to help Santa paint his sleigh. Norman Gnome does too, but he is too small, and he is not an elf. He has to go home alone. But what colour is the sleigh to be painted? … Santa didn't say. Painting is such hard work.

The Stables

The reindeers love being brushed by the fairies. Norman wanted to help, but he was too small. He had to go home alone. What very smart reindeer, (just to look at you understand), and what very tired fairies.

Santa's House

Santa has just so many pairs of boots to shine, and it is such hard work. Norman wouldn't have minded the hard work, but he had to go home alone. Eventually the boot polishers go home … tired out.

Gnome Alone

Back at "Dun Gnomin", (not mentioned in the script), Norman has his toy soldiers, teddies and clowns to try and cheer him up, but they just can't. He's fed up … so fed up.

Present Packing

Who would have thought that packing presents could be so exhausting! The fairies take a well earned rest.

Sleigh Time

It's time for Santa to deliver the presents, and the only person who is not tired out and fast asleep is … well, who would have guessed it? … good old Norman Gnome. Yippee!

A very appealing musical.

Norman Gnome only wants to help, but Santa won't let him paint the sleigh, shine his big black boots or smarten up the reindeer. Because Norman is so small, and is not an elf, he's sent home. When all the others are tired out though, Norman gets to help Santa deliver all the presents. Yippee!
