Narr 1 He said get mobile, not get a mobile.
Narr 2 Have bootees will travel?
Granny Another pair! (She gives Marcus a pair of bootees and settles to knitting)
Marcus Thanks Granny.
SONG 2 : BOOTEES
During the song the Gefrils collect a cart, (or as near to one as feasible), from offstage and start to pack the bootees onto it. At the end of the song Granny shouts “Another pair!” And all exit. Mary and Joseph enter with the donkey trailing behind.
Announcer Scene two, Customers.
Joseph Come on donkey, you’re supposed to be carrying Mary.
Donkey I’m puffed out.
Mary Oh Joseph, donkey needs a bit of a rest every now and then. I am rather
heavy. (Pats her tummy)
Joseph Well, I suppose the baby is quite big now. I hope he waits until Bethlehem to be born.
Enter the Gerfils. Granny is still knitting.
Marcus Ah Sir, Madam, I don’t suppose I could interest you in some baby bootees?
Donkey You could interest me… my hooves are killing me!
Mary Well I am going to have a baby soon.
Joseph I don’t suppose you sell swaddling clothes as well do you?
Selina I’m afraid not sir, but we’ve got some lovely red bootees. (Holds them up)
Mary How much are they?
Marcus Fifteen denarius to you madam.
Selina A bargain if you ask me.
Joseph Well we didn’t, but it seems a fair price. We’ll take them.
(The transaction takes place)
Marcus Now, could I interest you in anything for the donkey? (Donkey pricks its ears)
Mary You don’t sell saddles do you? This donkey’s ever so bony.
Donkey Bony? Bony? Well, that’s the thanks you get.
Selina Sorry lady, we only sell bootees.
Mary Well they’re all very nice. Thank you.
Scene 1 : The Bethlehem Bootee Company
Marcus and Selina, (M&S), are trying to sell the bootees that Granny is knitting for them. She’s a turbo knitter … steaming needles! Business isn’t too good, so they decide to get mobile ... no, not get A mobile … they weren’t invented.
Scene 2 : Customers
Mary and Joseph are the first customers of the new “have bootees will travel” enterprise. The donkey could secretly fancy some as well … but no luck.
Scene 3 : Name Calling
A short scene where Marcus and Selina choose the name “BBC” for themselves. After all “The BBC” is a much better name for a company that sells clothing than “M&S” … isn’t it?
Scene 4 : No Sale Today
The three kings don’t buy any bootees because they’re all “gifted out”. And anyway, they have their own presents for this baby they are travelling to see.
Scene 5 : Supplies and Angels
Granny has run out of wool. She goes to buy some from her suppliers …local shepherds, who shear a sheep or two. After the angels give them news of the special baby, the shepherds rush to find him, while Granny rushes home to knit some really special bootees.
Scene 6 : Presents
A pillow from the innkeeper and his wife, a posh bootee presentation pack from The BBC, and wonderful gifts from three kings. He must be a very special child.
Synopsis
