King 1             And we’ll be able to give the presents to the baby at last.

King 2             Right, let’s keep plodding on.

King 3             Giddee up camels! [They exit]

CAST               [Loudly] Way above The Camel’s Arms.

Roi and other shepherds enter, followed by Asaf and Naomi who are out of breath.

Roi                  Hello you two. Nice to see you.

Asaf                It’s a long way up that hill Roi, we’re puffed out.

Roi                  Should get more exercise you two.

Naomi             We’ve had enough exercise making beds and getting the inn ready

                      for all those visitors thanks.

Asaf                There are loads of them. Too many to count.

Roi                  Well there aren’t too many sheep to count, and we’ve got to count

them now. There’s been a wolf around. Let’s go and round them up.

                      [All exit. The sheep enter]

SONG 5 : BRAINLESS?

During the song the sheep can move comically and gesture their braininess. At the end

of the song the shepherds and children enter.

Roi                  Ah, here you are. Make a line then so we can count you all. [They do]

Shep 2             We’re not very clever at this counting stuff.

Shep 3             Never went to school.

Shep 4             Roi’s the best at it.

Roi                  [Slowly] One, two, three, four ...

Asaf                We’ve brought you a picnic Roi. Goats’ cheese sandwiches.

Roi                  Great . I’m starving. [Pause] Oh no, I’ve lost count. I’ll start again. One, two, three, four ...  [The children giggle and Asaf speaks]

Naomi             With date pickle in Roi.

Roi                  Mmm, date pickle, my favourite. Doh . One, two, three, four ...

                      [The children giggle]

Scene 1 : Inside a Bethlehem inn.

The innkeeper's two children are having a well earned rest after making all the beds. They are getting ready for loads of guests, and there is still tons to do.

Scene 2 : On the way.

Asaf and Naomi, the two children, buy something from the market that they think their big brother Roi might fancy to eat as he guards sheep on the hillside. Mmmm … goat cheese sandwiches, figs and warm goats' milk. Yummy!

On the way they meet Joseph and Mary, who ask if the children know of an inn where they might stay in Bethlehem. It seems unlikely that there is going to be any room.

Scene 3 : No room at the inn.

Mary and Joseph finally find shelter in a stable, at The Camel's Arms inn surprisingly enough.

Scene 4 : Weary Kings.

…. just plodding on …. and on … and on …

Scene 5 : On the hillside.

Roi tries rather unsuccessfully to count his sheep. Should have gone to school! The angels appear and tell of the good news … they CAN count …. no, that's not it … oh yes … a baby is born in Bethlehem.

Scene 6 : A child is born.

Pressies for the baby. "What a wonderful, wonderful birthday".

The Camels Arms

Synopsis

Terrific songs and a funny script.

Bethlehem is very, very busy. At The Camel's Arms inn there isn't even room for two strangers and their donkey. Wait … hang on … just a minute …
